Village of Burk's Falls Celebrates Seniors at Annual Mayor's Senior Tea
BURK'S FALLS, ON – The Village of Burk's Falls was pleased to host the 2026 Mayor's Senior Tea on June 13 at the Young at Heart Senior Centre, bringing together residents to celebrate and recognize the seniors who continue to make a positive impact throughout our community.
Hosted by Mayor Chris Hope, the annual event recognizes individuals whose volunteerism, leadership, generosity, and community spirit help make Burk's Falls a stronger and more vibrant place to live.
This year's Special Recognition recipients were Arlene Anderson, Coral Mason, Susan and Brian Darnborough, and Pat and Larry Sollman. Each was recognized for their outstanding contributions and dedication to community organizations, events, and initiatives that have benefited residents throughout the region.
The Village was also proud to recognize the 2026 Senior of the Year nominees: Paul Smith, Sheila Green, and Faye Evenden. Community nominations are received annually and provide an opportunity for residents to recognize seniors who have made meaningful contributions to the lives of others.
Mayor Hope was honoured to announce Jane Bissonette as the 2026 Burk's Falls Senior of the Year.
As the owner and operator of the Almaguin Donation and Thrift Store, Jane is known throughout the community for her compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Through her support of individuals, families, local youth, and community programs, she has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless residents. Jane received the highest number of community nominations this year in recognition of her outstanding contributions.
"The Mayor's Senior Tea is one of the most meaningful events we host each year," said Mayor Chris Hope. "It provides an opportunity to recognize the remarkable seniors who continue to give their time, talents, and support to our community. Congratulations to all of this year's recipients and nominees, and thank you for everything you do."
