Tri-R Committee - Blue Box Program

The Village of Burk’s Falls and the Tri-R Committee is requesting all residents and ratepayers to reduce the amount of garbage going into our landfill as it is quickly reaching capacity.

Blue Boxes will not be picked up if they are dirty. Any items that are not recyclable will be left in the blue box to be placed with your weekly garbage.

BLUE BOX ITEMS
Please read carefully and only recycle the items listed:

Aluminum:
Food & beverage cans
Rigid aluminum foil containers
Household aluminum foil

Steel:
Food & beverage cans

Glass:
All food & beverage quality glass
Coloured & clear

Corrugated Cardboard:
Any colour as long as it is corrugated

Newspaper and Newsprint

Magazines & Catalogues

Boxboard:
Cereal boxes, detergent etc.

Plastics:
Food & beverage containers.
Please rinse all containers, remove lids from plastics. Please put can lids in with cans. Please remove liners and flatten all cardboard and boxboard.

For Residents taking items to the Landfill Site, please note that every resident MUST have a Blue Card. Please adhere to the following regulations when taking items to the Landfill Site.

Burn Pile:
Clean wood waste only may be placed in the area. Any untreated, not painted
or stained wood. No stumps.

Scrap Metal:
Scrap metal is collected in a separate area and tipping fees may apply.

Refrigeration units must be tagged!!

Items NOT accepted in scrap pile include auto parts, propane tanks and any hazardous materials containers.

Re-Use Area

There is a roofed structure over the re-use area. Any items that may be of use to someone else may be placed in this area with the approval of the site attendant. Tipping fees apply.

Items may be taken from this area, donations appreciated, but not required.

Tires:
Tires are accepted not on rims and Tipping Fees apply. Rims may be placed in the scrap pile.

Compost:
Home composters are available, all organic waste including fruit and vegetable scraps, wood ashes, egg shells, tea bags, coffee grounds, lawn & garden clippings can go into the composter.

Hazardous Waste:
Hazardous Waste is not accepted at the Landfill site. Hazardous waste includes:
Paint/stain cans, batteries, used oil & containers, aerosol cans, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fertilizers, propane tanks, petroleum products and fluorescent lights.
