The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read the resolution
circulated by the Township of Wellington North expressing concern with
the new regulations released which were added to Reg 170/03 of the Safe
Drinking Water Act, regarding the number of annual lead samples to be
taken per drinking water system ;
Whereas under thee regulations, the number of annual samples required
has increased substantially depending on the population served by a
municipality’s drinking water system; and
Whereas the additional sampling requirements will result in creased
annual sampling and labour costs which must be covered through increased
water rates to the consumer; and
Whereas the number of samples required are not proportionate when
comparing small drinking water systems to drinking water systems of
larger municipalities of 100,00 or more;
Now Therefore Be It Resolved that the Council for the Village of Burk’s
Falls calls upon the government to reduce the lead sampling requirements
for small municipal water systems proportionately to the number of
samples required for larger municipalities of 100,00 or more.
