THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES

The regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls Council was held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in the Burk’s Falls Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m.
Present were Reeve Cathy Still, Councilors Lewis Hodgson, Bruce Campbell, Ron Russell and Rex Smith.
Ron Russell declared conflict of interest on planning issue.

Delegations to Council were:
1. Valerie Cranmer of Valerie Cranmer & Associates to discuss the Official Plan got the Village. She believes that it will receive approval from the Ministry. Post circulation comments from the Ministry may be forthcoming. Rocco M. was present to discuss his issues in regards to the right of way for his building on Ontario St. and the implications for property standards in the Official Plan. Council agreed to work with him to approach the landowner to resolve this issue.

2. Fred Reynolds to discuss his Syples St. property with the deck 10 X 10 on Village property. Council asked questions and would look further into the issue with their lawyer in terms of liability issues. Mr. Reynolds asked council if the Village would be interested in selling the property with all costs to be borne by him. Council will get a legal opinion and report back to Fred.

3. Laurie Hutchinson & Bill Ayotte to discuss a 9m no smoking by-law for Burk’s Falls Health Centre. Discussed advantages of adopting by-law. Council will consider this request as no other municipality has this by-law in East Parry Sound. Council decided they will support by-law for the Burk’s Falls Health Centre.

4. Juri Berzins-Urban Design Associates was present to give an update on the revitalization plan for the Village. Discussed short term and midterm improvements and approximate costs to do them. He will report back on the real costs at the next meeting.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read By-law No. 11-2010 being a by-law to govern the sale and other disposition of Land;

And the Council authorizes the Reeve and the Clerk to sign this by-law and affix the Seal of the corporation thereto.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls have read By-law No. 12-2010 being a by-law to adopt a Fire Prevention Policy;

That the Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls give a donation to the Armour Ryerson & Burk’s Falls Agricultural Society in the amount of $250.00 for the 2010 Fall Fair.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls approve the application to conduct a raffle lottery as presented by the Friends of the Burk’s Falls Armour & Ryerson Union Public Library provided all regulations are adhered to.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls accept the proposal from Lakeland Power to install new poles at the Community Sign Board at a cost of $0 Dollars.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls accept the quotation from Guillevin International Co. in the amount of $493.90 plus applicable taxes for a fall arrest system.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls accept the quotation from Precise Pavement/Field Marking in the amount of $1450.00 plus applicable taxes for painting parking spaces, handicapped symbols, cross walks and arena parking.

The Council for the Village of Burk’s Falls contributes $1,000.00 to Ontario Good Roads for the defense fund regarding the Minimum Maintenance Standards litigation.

That we approve the Accounts Payable as presented up to and including June 22, 2010 in the amount of $202,554.55 and hereby authorize the Clerk/Treasurer to issue cheques for same.
