THE VILLAGE OF BURK’S FALLS
COUNCIL MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Burk’s Falls Council was held on Wednesday,
February 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Burk’s Falls Council Chambers.
All Members of Council were present.
Delegations to Council were:
1. Kambiz Afshari: Contemplating building a retirement or nursing home
in the Village and was requesting a tax exemption or reduction for a
number of years plus assistance in water-sewers hook-ups. He is to
provide more details of the project to Council;
2. Bob Hall and Barbara Marlow from the Winterfest Committee to give a
report on the 15th Winterfest; they thanked Council for their support
and also gave a financial statement;
3. Peter Febel from the Santa Claus Parade Committee.Tthey are looking
for ideas on how to improve the Parade in future years. A Marching band
or musicians would be an attraction if available;
4. Lorne Main from the Burk’s Falls and District Historical Society. He
requested that Council give serious consideration to naming 113 Yonge
Street as the “James A. Sharpe Building” after the Village’s first Reeve
and putting a plaque on or in the building;
5. Yuri Berzins, an Urban Designer was present to give Council a
presentation on how to revitalize the Village. Needs a blueprint or
design of the Village utilizing the historical heritage of the Village.
Three parts for revitalization are the facade; branding; and
streetscape. He will give Council a more detailed scope of work and
costing for the March meeting;
6. Diana Warriner and Astrid Taim with water concerns. They have had
discoloured water since the Village completed their water projects. They
feel it is not fair that they are being charged the same amount as
others in the Village but they cannot use the water. They felt that they
should be reimbursed in some manner for their inconvenience. The Village
have contacted enginners, consultants and Ministry personnel to find a
solution for the problem that seems to be localized in one area of the
Village.
